The Bren Project

We provide 1:1 supported work experience and volunteering placements for people with learning disabilities and autism.

People can choose to access Bren Bikes for a preliminary placement followed by a 1-2-1 supported external placement with a local employer or voluntary organisation.  For both options the placements run for 1 day per week for 8 weeks offering a total of 16 weeks support if the full provision is selected.

Placements are tailored to cater for individual needs, abilities and aspirations.

Other notes

The Bren Project provides individual tailored work experience placements for local people who have learning disabilities and / or autism related disabilities.

We offer a preliminary in-house placements at Bren Bikes for 1 day per week for 8 weeks.  This is an opportunity to learn work based skills and boost confidence.  Bren Bikes is a social enterprise that recycles, repairs, maintains and sells used bicycles.  Work activities can be anything from bike mechanics through to administration and dealing with customers.  Bren Bikes has a manager, a supervisor and a regular group of volunteers who provide 1-2-1 support to people when they come to the workshop.

Beneficiries can then proceed to an external placement for a further 8 weeks for 1 day per week.  They can be accompanied with their own 1-2-1 job coach who will assist with training and mentoring throughout.  The aim is to match a person's aspirations and abilities with a host employer or voluntary organisation within the local community to give a meaningful and relevant work opportunity.

Bren Project work experiences are carefully arranged and monitored throughout by the Project Coordinators.  A full profile is carried out after referral to ensure that the placements match individual skills and regular contact is maintained throughout.  Job coaches and beneficiaries are matched according to interests and availability.
